The Popular Party of Badalona, ??which governs the Badalona City Council with an absolute majority, will promote a plenary motion in which they oppose any type of amnesty for any citizen, regardless of the crime. The mayor, Xavier Garcia Albiol, assures that “Spain’s institutions are going to be weakened with the amnesty.”
Albiol suspects that Pedro Sánchez “already has tied up” the investiture with the support of ERC, Junts and Bildu. Regarding the amnesty request, he assured that “the majority of the population does not agree” and warned that including it in the investiture pact could “end up weakening Spanish institutions.” In an ironic tone he has stated that he agrees with the Spanish president and that he shares his opinion, however he clarified that “I think the same as Pedro Sánchez three months ago” when he declared that the amnesty was outside the Constitution. “It’s the same thing I think,” he declared.
In the motion presented urgently in the plenary session held this Monday, the PP regrets that the price of the Spanish presidency would not only be to exonerate hundreds of crimes but also to “delegitimize the rule of law” and whitewash crimes such as sedition. They consider the fact “unaffordable” for any “decent” government and that the situation is “causing a deep social commotion.”
The text of the motion rejects any type of amnesty and pardon and encourages the two major Spanish parties to seek agreements that prevent “society from being subjected to the independentists”
