The Ministry of Transport has stated that the Borkum ship, which plans to call in Cartagena in the next few hours, is destined for the Czech Republic and has stressed that, “in no case”, is it heading to Israel, according to the information contained in the cargo ship’s documentation.
The Sea Sector of the Federation of Citizen Services of CCOO of the Region of Murcia had requested the inspection and immobilization of the cargo ship on suspicion that it was carrying weapons that were headed to Israel, and also the Solidarity Network Against the Palestinian Occupation (Rescop) had reported this Tuesday this arrival at the port of Cartagena.
According to sources from this Ministry, there are a multitude of ships that dock in Spanish ports every day and in the case of the Borkum, as in all of them, the ship, owned by German shipowners and owners, has all the documentation in order.
He points out that this is one more of the international trade movements that has everything in order, in accordance with the regulations, and that it is an internal connection between two countries of the European Union.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Transport has asked “that unnecessary social alarm not be created” and has stressed that the port authority has authorized the arrival of the Borkum ship to port so “there are no reasons to make any type of accusation.”
The Political Secretary of Podemos and head of the list for the European elections, Irene Montero, had asked the Government to prevent the cargo ship Borkum from “leaving the Spanish coasts” because there are “serious suspicions” that it is carrying weapons whose destination would be Israel.
“We have serious suspicions as to whether that freighter is coming to Cartagena only to refuel with gasoline or whether it is also coming to load weapons, but in any case they are weapons that are going to arrive in Israel,” stated the former minister.
