Narcissists are like that: they think the world begins and ends with them. Cocteau defined narcissists as those who dare to talk to you about themselves, when you are dying to talk about yourself. But it is no less true that the daffodils have found in social networks the best waters in which to look. As much as they end up drowning in the depths, as Ovid warned them more than two thousand years ago, when there was no Twitter but Nemesis, the goddess of revenge, who was in charge of punishing pride.

Donald Trump is the quintessence of narcissism. After appearing defiantly in the room of the Supreme Court of the state of New York, where the justice accuses him of 34 crimes, among which is the payment of bribes to a porn actress, he returned to his residence in Mar-a -Lago, in Florida, and spoke to his followers. The first thing he said in an incendiary speech is that the United States is going to hell, when most likely he will end up in hell. Trump accused the Democrats of persecuting him using state resources, attacked the Prosecutor’s Office for animosity against him and concluded that his only crime has been to defend the nation. And he still announced that he will fight to return to the White House in order to save the country. CNN dared to interrupt the speech and the channel’s host apologized: “We expected Trump to talk about what happened today.”

The world does not deserve that a character with the former president’s lack of ethics and morals can take office again. Just the fact of not accepting the last election result and encouraging the storming of the Capitol should disqualify him forever. But not even the possible sentence will prevent him from running, if he gets the Republican nomination. And we would return to lies, chaos and corruption. America’s image would deteriorate, as would its democracy.

However, there is one hopeful fact: Trump spurred the masses to demonstrate in New York in his favor and barely gathered a few hundred geeks. There were more journalists than narcissus supporters. The only prints left by the day were those of Trump’s fingers when the police processed his arrest.
