After yesterday’s Basque elections, in which the PNV resisted the push of EH Bildu and its candidate, Imano Pradales, made sure to govern with the PSE, the Basque Parliament will receive its new deputies in the coming days. These are the elected representatives and some of the characteristics of the next Parliament.
52% of the deputies of the Basque Parliament will be women. In total, 39 women and 36 men will make up the Basque Chamber. The party that will contribute the most women to Parliament is EH Bildu, with a total of 15. On the other hand, it will be the PNV that will have the most men in its group (15).
Of the 7 deputies of the Popular Party, 5 are women and 2 men, and the PSE will be made up of 50% of deputies of each gender.
The average age of Parliament’s deputies will be 50 years, with EH Bildu being the party with the lowest average (44 years). On the other hand, the PNV will have an average of 48 years and both the PSE and the PP will have an average of 50 years. The only Vox representative in Parliament is 56 years old, and Sumar’s is 45.
Dividing the parliamentarians by age ranges, we find that the most common is between 46 and 55 years old, with 41.3%. On the other hand, there are no representatives who are between 18 and 25 years old or 66 or older.
The youngest deputies in Parliament will be, at 27 years old, Edurne Benito and Eraitz Saez, representatives of EH Bildu for Vizcaya and Gipúzkoa respectively. The oldest deputy will be, in this case, Miren Arrate Gallastegui, PSE deputy for Gipúzkoa, 63 years old.
Of the 75 total deputies, the majority of them (39) had already been members of the Basque Parliament, so 48% will be rookies. In EH Bildu, 14 of its 27 parliamentarians will be new, while in the PNV, only 11.
