The 45-year-old director Jonas Alexander Arby debuted in 2014 with the successful, alternative horror film ‘When animals dream’, but unfortunately not quite as lucky off with his second attempt – it is something stagnant selvmordsdrama ‘Selvmordsturisten’.

the Story is short, to forsikringsmanden Max (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) – who is just as self-effacing as forsikringsmænd always is on film, is diagnosed with a terminal tumor in the brain. As he does not want to be a burden on anyone, certainly not his sweet wife Lark (Tuva Novotny), and as always would like to have control over things – even death – is going he himself on the secluded and secret located hotel Aurora.

Aurora specializes in euthanasia – that is, a place where one can end his life with dignity in the condition and in beautiful surroundings. However, you can’t undo, once the contract is signed…

It is, of course, a scoop, to the relatively blank instructor has got ‘Game of Thrones’star Coster-Waldau to play the absolute leading role in the ‘Selvmordsturisten’, not least because he is guaranteed to not have been able to lure with the hire, as Coster-Waldau is used to getting nowadays. Whatever it is that has got him to jump on board, is, however, obscure.

Coster-Waldau is doing it, of course, excellent as the more and more desperate Service, and he is in almost every scene in the film, but good acting makes it, as you know, not alone. It makes beautiful photography, audio and production design nor not.

the Craft is on the whole a really skillfully done here – and it is (one must assume) a relatively modest budget can possibly do not be seen. But just a little helps it, when the manuscript (again) lagging.

the Pass – in addition to Coster-Waldau and Tuva Novotny, we meet, among others, Sonja Richter, and Solbjørg Højfeldt – fails, as I said, nothing, and it makes the staging does not. But I simply do not understand what the director and the screenwriter Rasmus Birch would like to show or tell with this film. Of course, it could be me, but anyway. Slutningens anticlimactic it is not making the general appearance better.

‘Selvmordsturisten’ is not a contribution to the debate on euthanasia. It is also not something existential drama about death’s presence. It is also not a subtle song of life despite.

It is fundamental neither exciting, entertaining, thought-provoking, amusing, spectacular, surprising, challenging or whatever you may require, that a movie should be.

It is first and foremost a waste of time. And it is dødssygt. I doubt that it survives a long time in the Danish cinemas.
