Italy’s government declared Thursday a state of emergency in Venice because of the massive amounts of rain, which has led to the worst flooding in the popular tourist town since 1966.

Already on Tuesday – two days before the state of emergency – were the historic regional parliament building for the regional council of the Veneto, Palazzo Ferro Fini, situated in the heart of Venice, flooded. Ironically, it happened the same night as the regional council had debated the regional budget for the Veneto in 2020.
