The Civil Guard ambushed and killed the anarchist Ramón Vila, an anti-Franco guerrilla, member of the National Confederation of Labor (CNT), near the castle in Balsareny, in Bages. Known as ‘Caracremada’, he had fought on the Republican side during the Spanish Civil War and against the Germans in France and had continued the armed struggle until August 7, 1963.
