The party led by Carles Puigdemont, who was mayor of Girona, won comfortably again last night in the Girona district. The Junts Puigdemont candidacy, headed by businessman Salvador Vergés, added seven deputies, a result identical to that of the last two elections. The PSC obtained one more representative than in 2021, going from three to four seats, and emerged as the second force, snatching that position from ERC, which became the great loser of the night.

The party, which presented Laia Cañigueral, delegate of the Generalitat, as the head of the list, lost two of the four representatives it had achieved in the last two elections. Drought management in an eminently tourist province may have taken its toll on these results.

One of last night’s surprises, Aliança Catalana, the party led by the mayor of Ripoll, Sílvia Orriols, which will debut in this legislature in the Parliament of Catalonia, won one of its two seats in the Girona district. The electoral photo in the province is completed by Vox, which with deputy Alberto Terradas once again at the helm maintains the representative that it already obtained three years ago; the CUP, which loses one seat and keeps one, and the PP, which manages to have again the deputy it had won in 2015 and who failed to revalidate in the next two electoral dates. Comuns Sumar, which hoped to obtain representation on this occasion with the deputy in Congress Eloi Badia at the helm, did not achieve the objective.

The final photo of these elections leaves several headlines. Whether under the acronym CiU, Junts or now Junts Puigdemont, the party has always prevailed in Girona in Catalan elections, and the Puigdemont effect continues to have a strong pull in the Girona fiefdom. In fact, last night his party had the most votes in 208 of the 221 municipalities in the district. It was the force that obtained the most votes in all the regions and in the regional capitals, except Ripoll, where Sílvia Orriols was a prophet in her land. In the city where she serves as mayor, she was voted for by a third of the total voters. It was not the only municipality in which she obtained a majority. In the neighboring towns of Les Llosses and Campdevànol, Aliança Catalana was also the most voted force. In Gombrèn, Junts and Aliança tied in number of votes.

Another of the headlines is that the Girona district is once again established as the most pro-independence district in Catalonia. Eleven of the seventeen representatives at stake are sovereignists. However, they are two less than those achieved just three years ago, when the sum of Junts, ERC and the CUP obtained 13 seats.

The formation that has won the most votes compared to 2021 is the PSC. As the electoral count progressed, the socialists, who in these elections once again presented Sílvia Paneque, deputy in the Parliament and winner of the last municipal elections in the city of Girona, as the head of the list, gained a fourth representative. A fact that allows her to surpass the three seats that she obtained in 2021 and she remains one away from her historical ceiling in the district. In seven years, the Socialist Party has gone from one to four deputies in the province of Girona. With 99% counted, there were 16,000 more votes than three years ago. Yesterday it was the most voted list in cities where the socialists govern, such as Roses, Portbou, Lloret de Mar or Blanes, but also in Salt, where Junts won in the last elections.

Vox, which three years ago won in the municipality of Vilamalla (Alt Empordà), on this occasion tied in number of votes with the PSC.
