The candidate of Podemos for Mayor of Madrid, Roberto Sotomayor, has presented this Monday a document in the Court of Instruction number 47 of Madrid to request that the general coordinator of the Mayor’s Office of the City Council of the capital, Elena Collado, declare that she is being investigated by the called ‘Case masks’.

Sources from Podemos, which is acting as popular prosecution in this case, argue that Collado, responsible for purchasing the Consistory, “did nothing to protect the public money of the Consistory”, for which he requests that she be summoned to testify as being investigated for an alleged crime of administrative prevarication and embezzlement of public funds.

In addition, they assure that Collado knew of the “breach” of the mask purchase deal by commission agents Alberto Luceño and Luis Medina, the only two investigated in the case, and by the Leno company, supplier of medical supplies.

“To this day, the Madrid City Council with José Luis Martínez-Almeida at its head continues without being accountable or debugging responsibilities,” said Sotomayor, who has stated that Podemos is going to go “to the end” in this case.

The ‘Mask Case’ revolves around an alleged scam against the Madrid City Council in the sale of masks, gloves and tests at the beginning of the pandemic, an operation for which Luis Medina and Alberto Luceño pocketed more than 6 million dollars and which cost the Consistory 11.9 million euros.
