Politicians can’t make energy cheap again, Feb. 23
Congratulations on an excellent article. However, I wonder why the quality of life in our consumer society Ontario rarely enters discussions about energy costs.
Twenty years ago, Toronto experienced 52 smog days causing similar respiratory problems as residents of Beijing suffer. There have been no smog days since 2014. The main reason is that the R.L. Hearn, Lakeview and Nanticoke coal-burning power stations have been shut down. This action could only have been taken because expensive nuclear power has reliably, continually and safely supplied up to 60 per cent of our electrical needs.
Is not the expense of nuclear power plant refurbishment a wise investment until we have more renewables? What is the financial value of clean air to Ontarians? It seems that for many of us the most difficult mathematics is to learn to count our blessings.
