The Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun (Sumar), this morning called for unity among leftist groups in the face of “the lawfare attacks” which, in his opinion, “will go to the end.” This was expressed in an interview in Cafè d’Idees after the public letter to the citizens that the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, published yesterday in which he announced that he was opening a period of reflection in which to decide if “everything is worth it.” this”, Urtasun has expressed that they have to “respect their time”.

Sánchez’s letter, which “no one imagined”, is a consequence, as he explains in the letter, of the “operation of harassment and demolition” that he claims his wife, Begoña Gómez, is suffering after the complaint by the “far-right organization” Manos Cleaned for the alleged crimes of influence peddling and corruption in business.

According to the Minister of Culture, “we are facing a case of lawfare”, and it does not give any credibility to the complaint. Furthermore, he believes that far-right attacks will continue “by land, sea and air.” “The reactionaries are on a brutal offensive,” he added.

Given the “lawfare” situation denounced by Sumar’s spokesperson, Urtasun has asked the progressive forces “to be more united than ever.” The minister has reiterated “respect for Sánchez’s decision” and did not want to consider a possible resignation of the President.

Sánchez’s letter has entered “like a howitzer” into the electoral campaign that begins today in Catalonia. Urtasun believes that “there will be a lot of talk about this issue” but he assured that “they have to move forward.

The President has canceled his entire agenda, so he will not participate in the rallies he had scheduled for this weekend as part of the Catalan campaign.

Regarding the upcoming elections in Catalonia, Urtasun has criticized that members of Junts “have left the door open to the votes of Aliança Catalana.” “We have to put up a barrier and a cordon sanitaire,” he said.

Furthermore, he has opted to form a progressive Government after the elections with ERC “and all the progressive forces.” “I think they will give the numbers,” she confided.

On February 27, the PSC and ERC signed an agreement to approve the budgets of the Generalitat for this year, which would later be frustrated by the refusal of the commons to the Hard Rock. Yesterday it was revealed that precisely on the same day the Government updated its role in the controversial project. A fact that both Comuns Sumar and the CUP, two possible allies of ERC after 12-M, vehemently criticized.

On this issue, Urtasun has regretted “a certain deception by ERC to the citizens” after assuring them that “there was no agreement and that the project could not be stopped.”

Finally, Sumar’s spokesperson has reflected on the political moment that his party is experiencing after being left out of the Galician Parliament and obtaining only one deputy in the recent Basque elections. Urtasun has assessed that “Sumar was born to revive the space of Unidas Podemos” and has regretted the difficulty of its internal processes. Even so, he has assured that “it will turn out well.”
