The president of the Provincial Council of Ourense, Manuel Baltar, has announced this Wednesday his resignation from the act as mayor in the Esgos town hall, so that he will no longer be able to choose to continue presiding over the provincial institution, at the head of which he has been since 2012.
The announcement was made at a press conference by the PP candidate for Ourense, Manuel Cabezas, who learned of the decision at half past twelve, as he explained to the press.
This departure will put an end to a political cycle in which the last name Baltar has been linked to the provincial institution, in the last 11 years by the hand of the until now president; and in more than two previous decades with his father, José Luis Baltar Pumar, in possession of the provincial command baton
The resignation comes after Baltar was denounced for a crime against road safety for driving 215 kilometers per hour on the A-52 highway on April 23 with an official car.
Baltar is pending trial in the Criminal Court of Zamora after three suspensions of the process, the last one due to the strike of justice officials. Previously, the previous speedy trial was postponed twice, once due to the non-appearance of the lawyer and the other because the defendant did not agree with the request for sentences from the Prosecutor’s Office.
