JxCat has already designated the heads of the provincial list that will accompany Carles Puigdemont in the Catalan elections on May 12: they will be Mònica Sales for Tarragona, Salvador Vergés for Girona and Jeannine Abella for Lleida.
This is what JxCat announced this Friday in a statement, after yesterday Puigdemont announced at a conference in Elna (France) his decision to run in the 12-M elections with the aim of being “reinstated” as president of the Generalitat after having been dismissed in 2017 with article 155 of the Constitution.
This Thursday at midnight the deadline for submitting candidatures to head the lists of the four Catalan constituencies ended and, as there was only one candidate for each position, Puigdemont, Sales, Abella and Vergés have been automatically ratified by the electoral union of the party.
Born in Tortosa (Tarragona) in 1983, Mònica Sales is one of the voices of the Terres de l’Ebre within the party and has gained prominence over the course of this last legislature as JxCat’s spokesperson in Parliament, alongside the president of group, Albert Batet.
Salvador Vergés has also been gaining prominence as a deputy in the Parliament: although he was initially identified within the sector related to Laura Borràs, little by little he has repositioned himself as close to the general secretary of JxCat, Jordi Turull, and has ended his mandate as the party spokesperson in the monographic plenary session on the demands of Catalan farmers.
Jeannine Abella is the mayor of Isona and Conca Dellà, a Lleida municipality of barely a thousand inhabitants, she has been a lawyer, linked to the ANC, and is considered close to the former general secretary of JxCat Jordi Sànchez.
