The value of empathy in politics is more than studied, and the doctrine establishes that it is a fundamental quality for any politician. This quality is the proof of exploiting the PP in favor of its candidate with the pre-campaign video that it broadcast yesterday, a video in which Alberto Núñez Feijóo reveals his more personal side. A biographical video that reviews the “seven key moments” of his life, from his childhood in the small town of Orense de Los Peares to his complete dedication to politics despite initial resistance. A first-person review of how Albertito, as he was called as a child, has become Feijóo.

The popular candidate narrates in the video the “happy” childhood in his hometown, the vocation for studies that led his parents to put him on a train with a suitcase, the day he turned 10, to enter school Champagnat de León, a boarding school run by the Marists. But the discipline, the academic record – despite some outbursts that he himself relates – and the maxim instilled by his parents – “do things well, be serious and always think of others” – make him progress.

Albertito becomes Núñez and, later, “Alberto”, in high school and the Faculty of Law of Santiago de Compostela, where he begins his university studies with “the illusion of becoming a judge one day “.

Of that university time, “of a lot of political activism”, he emphasizes that he had fun “as much as possible” and that he came to vote for the socialist Felipe González “because it was what Spain needed at that time”. But he also explains how a letter of dismissal that the father receives causes the dream of being a judge to “disappear”. With the need to contribute to the family economy, he started working with the aim of becoming an official of the Xunta.

After approving in five months an opposition from the Ministry of Finance, he received his first proposal to enter politics: the general secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, which he initially refused because “it was supposed to be something I didn’t want, to get involved in politics And I said no”, he explains. But he thinks about it and, two months later, when “miraculously the position was still vacant”, he accepts. In this way, he became the right-hand man of the one who was Minister of Health with Aznar, José Manuel Romay Beccaría, and hence the passage through Insalud and Correos, the first public company in Spain.

The video, filled with snapshots from each stage, recalls the first electoral campaign as a candidate for the Xunta, for which he traveled to “every town in Galicia”, and the victory he reissued, one absolute majority after another, during four mandates.

In the middle of the video, Feijóo also explains how he met Eva, his wife, and became the father of “little Alberto”, the son, to whom, when he grows up, he will instill the inherited maxim: “Do things well, be serious and always think of others”.
