Alberto Núñez Feijóo does not want other issues to hide the “seriousness” of the pact that the Socialists agreed with Junts to push forward the decree laws. He denounces both the content of the agreements and the fact that Pedro Sánchez has belittled the “legitimate president of the Generalitat, now” and has recognized Carles Puigdemont as president of Catalonia.
In an informative breakfast organized by Nueva Economía Fórum, the leader of the PP complained that the central government does not convene the conference of presidents, which all the popular barons have requested, and Sánchez is in “permanent conversation” with the former president Catalan.
The leader of the PP also indicated the possibility that Puigdemont could return to Spain before the summer. He assured that by that time of the year he wants to have the Amnesty law approved in Congress. After assuring that Spanish politics “will be decided at Waterloo”, he affirmed that the Spanish Government “must humiliate itself daily” and “give in on everything” as, in his opinion, was already seen last week in the plenary session of Congress. “Everything is planned so that Mr. Puigdemont can come to Spain. Not only with forgiveness, but because we ask for forgiveness”.
The president of the PP justifies these statements in matters such as the transfer of immigration jurisdiction to Catalonia “which is agreed with who is president, and Aragonèsse finds out about it through the media”.
Feijóo draws a lesson from what has happened with the approval of the decrees, and he turned to political science to explain it. He recalled that just as there is the “prisoner’s dilemma”, there is also “the deer hunt” and the “chicken game”. For the president of the PP we are in the latter case, in which there are two kamikazes going at full speed, head on, and whoever turns away loses. For him, until now, “Sánchez always leaves and Puigdemont wins” and the Spanish Government, in the words of Junts, “yields and yields”.
In this sense, Feijóo was asked what the next red line will be “to be crossed by the Spanish Government” and warned that it can no longer be ruled out “that they could be pardons for those convicted of blood crimes”.
On the future of the Catalan PP, the popular leader did not want to reveal his project. He only advanced that the regional congress will be held in the second half of the year, after the Galician, Basque and European elections. He did assure that the popular people in Catalonia want to “talk about the Catalans and not the Catalan politicians”. This means, he said, addressing issues such as the situation of education, after the results of the PISA report, the situation of the university, of health and its surgical waiting lists, of the loss of productive tissue, and of the “fiscal gluttony” in Catalonia, which he described as “the biggest in Spain”.
For this reason, the popular president assured, “we will rearm the party and do what is appropriate”, because, he said, “Catalonia is a community that is decisive for the PP”. However, he did not advance who will end up directing the party.
