The arch-famous Britney Spears was assaulted by a security guard of the basketball player Victor Wembanyama when she wanted to approach to greet the new star of the Spurs, 19 years old. The events took place on the night of Wednesday 5 July in Las Vegas, at the Catch restaurant in the Aria hotel. Spears, 41, recognized Wembanyama and decided to go over to congratulate him (he was picked number one in the NBA draft on June 22). As he touched the French player’s shoulder, one of Spurs’ bodyguards, Damien Smith, punched him in the face with such force that the singer’s glasses flew off.
Spears took to social media to report the incident and says she has yet to receive an apology from Wemby or his team. According to specialized media, the case will not be treated as an assault, as the police have determined that Smith was only doing his job when he protected Wembanyama and that he never intended to harm the singer.
Victor Wembanyama, during a subsequent interview, explained that hours later the Spurs security team gave him the identity of the person they had removed. “At first I thought she was joking, but it turns out that she was Britney Spears. I didn’t get to see his face, I just kept walking.”
