The general secretary of Podemos, Ione Belarra, has asked the Government to guarantee the arrival and security of the Freedom Flotilla that intends to bring humanitarian aid and international observers to the Gaza Strip.
The position of the purple party was announced at a press conference before the Congressional Spokesperson’s Board by the party’s deputy Javier Sánchez Serna, detailing that its leader has demanded “diplomatic political action by this Government so that it can leave the port.” from Istanbul and no longer be detained.”
As Serna has pointed out, this can be done with a call to the Government of Turkey and with “coordinated action with European governments so that they pressure in the same direction” and that the Flotilla “is not attacked by Israel.”
As Podemos sources have confirmed, Belarra would have contacted personnel from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, EU and Cooperation for this purpose.
The Podemos MP Martina Velarde, the ex-mayor of Barcelona Ada Colau have joined the Flotilla; the candidate of Catalonia in Common in the European elections, Jaume Asens, number 2 on the list of Sumar, and the deputy of Izquierda Unida in the Assembly of Extremadura Nerea Fernández Cordero.
