Barcelona will be the venue for the presentation gala of the new distribution of stars from the Michelin Guide 2024. This was announced yesterday by representatives of this publication, referring to an international scale, Barcelona City Council and Barcelona Tourism, which they stated that, after two years of candidacy, the city has established itself as the best place to host this gastronomic meeting. They did it at the Maritime Museum during an event attended by some of the best-known faces of Barcelona restaurants: Oriol Castro (Disfrutar), the brothers Sergio and Javier Torres (Cocina Hermanos Torres), Paolo Casagrande (Lasarte), Albert Raurich ( Dos Palillos), Carles Gaig and Oriol Ivern (Hisop) or Raül Balam (Moments), among others.
It will be the second time that the red guide is presented in Barcelona, ??after the gala that took place in the city in 2011. The appointment will be on November 28 at 8 p.m., and the chosen space, the Auditori Fòrum del CCIB. After the presentation, the chefs of the three Barcelona restaurants currently awarded three Michelin stars (Lasarte, Àbac and Cocina Hermanos Torres) will serve the gala dinner menu, which they will prepare for around 700 people with the help of others renowned chefs in the city.
“Barcelona, ??in addition to having a lot of personality and a high level of gastronomy, is the city in Spain with the most Michelin stars (3 three-star restaurants, 5 two-star restaurants and 16 with one star). It has managed to recover the pre-pandemic rhythm and hosts a gastronomic event every month; without counting that it has the capacity to receive thousands and thousands of people. It made sense to celebrate the gala here”, explained Miguel Pereda, director of sales and marketing of the Michelin guide in Spain and Portugal, during the presentation.
The chefs who attended the event were enthusiastic about the news. “It is something very important for the city. All of us chefs were really looking forward to Michelin holding its gala here again. Hopefully this will be the beginning of many other gastronomic events”, assured Sergio and Javier Torres, minutes after Paolo Casagrande, from the also three-starred Lasarte, pointed out Barcelona as the city that continues to be the benchmark in gastronomy in the world .
“An event like the Michelin gala will allow Barcelona to associate itself with the values ??of creativity, talent and innovation that many of our city’s restaurants follow”, assured Eduard Torres, president of Turisme de Barcelona, ??who added that the excel excellence in the gastronomic offer contributes to positioning Barcelona in the tourism sector from an aspirational point of view. “It increases our value. And the fact that we are the city with the most Michelin stars in Spain tells us that what started 25 years ago as a gastronomic revolution is still the present”.
In the presentation, Xavier Marcé, councilor for Tourism and Creative Industries of Barcelona, ??also assured that, even if the city is a benchmark thanks to the success of its haute cuisine, it is also thanks to the work of the thousands of bars and restaurants that strive every day to serve with quality both those who live in Barcelona and those who just come to visit the city.
