The municipal government of Badalona (Barcelonès Nord) will approve next week in an extraordinary plenary session an investment of more than 17 million euros for the construction of the Badalona Port and Ventós Mir schools. In this way, the City Council takes charge of the construction of both centers in advance and meets a demand from families and the educational community that has been going on for more than 10 years. The Generalitat will return the money to the local administration in different annuities over four years.
Once this investment is approved, in parallel the municipal government is already working to tender the project for the two schools at the end of this year and to be able to start the works next summer. The approximate execution period for the actions will be 19 months.
The mayor of Badalona, ??Xavier Garcia Albiol, has remarked that “neither families nor teachers could continue to expect to have decent, modern and fully functional facilities”. “This is an investment that can be approved at this time because there is political stability in the City Council and, therefore, the priority of this Government is to address and unblock all the projects that have been paralyzed in recent years,” he says.
The Ventós Mir school is a historic center in Badalona located in a building that began operating as a school in 1926. Currently, it has approximately one and a half lines per course divided between the building and an extension made in 2008 with prefabricated modules on a plot of land close to the main building. The new school contemplates the construction of a new two-line building that will respond to the demand for publicly offered places in the downtown area of ??the city, since it will be built on the Estrella land. This building, which will consist of a ground floor plus two floors, has an approximate budget of 8,335,702 euros.
The Badalona Port school is a center of an educational line that was created in the 2010-2011 academic year in prefabricated modules, with the limitations that this situation entails. The school is located in the Gorg neighborhood, which is undergoing great urban growth, on the site where the old Technical Vehicle Inspection (ITV) was located. A new Infant and Primary center will be built with two lines that will consist of a ground floor plus two floors. The budget for the action amounts to 8,833,000 euros.
