Alberto Dugarte is one of the people who knows the most secrets about well-known Spanish faces. Always in the shadows, as a faithful companion and doing what he has loved since he was very young: creating style and enhancing the beauty in others. He defines himself as a dreamer, but one of those who for a long time had to imprison his desires because the path he had chosen was not what his environment and society wanted for him. And Alberto, with almost no fighting references, believed the story that he couldn’t be different and that it wasn’t worth fighting for what he felt.

The 37-year-old stylist’s story is certainly an inspiring one, which is perhaps why, now that she’s taken the path she never imagined, she’s using her social media to raise awareness. Dugarte went this weekend to the Expo Beauty Barcelona contest, where he was awarded a prize for some of his creations. He received this medium to talk about his personal and professional career, and the well-known label of “the stylist of the famous”, which he accepts willingly: “It is a reality, and it seems to me something even beautiful that know for that”.

Dugarte is one of the top exponents of the styling sector within television programs, where he has contributed his experience in spaces such as Idol Kids or Got Talent, to name two examples. His pace of life is frenetic, he reveals that he works every day and sleeps little, and that the key to his family reconciliation is that he can work with his partner, who is an aesthetic doctor: “It is much easier to combine everything because we carry the same frenetic rhythm. I love what I do, and it’s easy for me to do it 24 hours a day.”

Getting this far has not been easy for Alberto who, when he was a child, was distracted by creating clothes with paper napkins in a restaurant, while the other children went outside to play football or do sports. He also tried, with more or less success, to do hairstyles for his parents’ friends, with some mishaps, like when his brush got tangled and he couldn’t get it out.

And then came the void: “There was a stage of about nine years when I was very afraid to do what I liked because I was pointed out because I was the lady of the town, and I, who did not know the whole universe , I hid it so as not to disappoint my family. My father had a very strict education, and it was complicated then”, he explains.

He went to Tenerife, where he worked in different trades, such as advertising delivery man, window dresser or waiter. Until he hit the table: “The most important thing was to accept myself, from there everything flowed”. He went to Madrid, where he also lived through a complicated period, with hard economic times, when he only had money to eat a can of tuna and some spaghetti, but when he called his mother she lied and told him that everything was fine well

She got in touch with make-up and styling, and realized that there was a world beyond weddings. “Beauty is my happiness and that of others. I don’t like dressing people up, but enhancing their beauty”, he explains. This is how he accumulated a portfolio of public figures who trust him, such as Isabel Pantoja, Ana Obregón, Jorge Javier Vázquez or a Georgina with whom he worked in the first season of his series and whom he defines as “a person very, very close”. Currently he uses his Instagram not only to make his creations visible, but also to eliminate fears for others and be a light for others, the light that he never had when he was a child and that forced him to protect himself in the shade It is now a permanent focus.
