The Adam Foods group, owned by the Ventura family, expands its offer with the addition of a historic brand, Birba biscuits, which it has acquired with the purchase of its manufacturer, Galetes Camprodon. With the operation, the amount of which has not been disclosed, Adam Foods strengthens its brand portfolio, which includes brands such as Cuétara and Artiach.

Founded in 1893, Galetes Camprodon has a factory in the town of the same name that employs more than 60 people, where it makes Birba and also Núria biscuits. In 2014 it was acquired by a group of investors led by Víctor Marsal. Then the company was one step away from closure and the new investors tried to refloat the business.

Now it’s changing hands again. Adam Foods has committed to preserving employment at the plant located in the Ripollès region. “Birba and Núria are highly valued brands. We hope to continue and improve the tradition of excellence in the production of cookies that we are collecting with this acquisition”, commented Fabrice Ducceschi, first executive of Adam Foods. “We are committed to maintaining employment in Birba and continuing to offer our customers the same quality,” he added.

For his part, Víctor Marsal, until now manager and shareholder of Galetes Camprodon, defined the operation as “an unquestionable opportunity” for the company. “For us, a central factor in the decision to sell to Adam Foods was its commitment to the continuity of workers and the way of preparing historical recipes”, he stressed.

The company, which invoices around eight million euros per year according to sources consulted, will continue to operate as an independent company within the group. The operation was advised by the firm KPMG and the firm RocaJunyent.

Adam Foods specializes in the production and marketing of biscuits, pâtés, honey, pastries, broths and bread. It has brands such as Cuétara, Artiach, La Piara patés, Granja San Francisco honey, Aneto broths or Panrico, which it bought in 2016 from Bimbo. It employs more than 1,400 people in the nine production plants, seven are in Spain and two are in Portugal. Its products are sold in more than 75 countries and it has an annual turnover of around 350 million euros.

The group is the company resulting from the segregation in 2014 of the historic Nutrexpa, split into Adam Foods and Idilia Foods, the manufacturer of brands such as ColaCao or Nocilla.
