This Tuesday in Malaga, the National Police arrested a person allegedly involved in the attempted murder of Alejo Vidal-Quadras. According to El Confidencial, the portal that reported the news, the suspect is of Spanish nationality and was hiding in the Andalusian city. He had been under close police surveillance for several days. He would be the author of the attack.
The former Catalan politician was shot in the face on November 9 on Núñez de Balboa Street in Madrid and was taken consciously to the Gregorio Marañón hospital. The bullet shattered his jaw and he had to undergo emergency surgery. Since then he has been recovering from his injuries in the health center.
Hours after the attack, Vidal-Quadras, 78, accused Iran of being behind it due to its relationship with the opposition to the regime. The National Court, the judicial body competent to investigate terrorism crimes, opened proceedings to investigate the nature of the shooting.
In an opinion column published this Sunday in Vozpópuli, Vidal-Quadras praised the “elite” public health team “gathered with admirable urgency and fought bravely” to save his life. In the text, he thanked the surgeons, anesthetists, nursing staff, instrumentalists, assistants and orderlies for their work.
“I have so much to be grateful for during these days between the ominous shooting and today that I would not know where to start. First of all, the love for their profession of an incredible group perfectly combined, surgeons, anesthetists, nursing staff, instrumentalists, assistants and guards. Secondly, the numerous specialists from the UCI, of whom I do not have a clear image while I came and went in Charon’s boat lost in a nebula halfway between this world and the final one,” he wrote.
