The phrase “here comes crying” is an expression that, apparently, comes from the mus so that the naysayers don’t complain so much. In politics it turns out to be a frequent expression of inconsideration towards the rival when he complains. Almost at the same time, Isabel Díaz Ayuso and Carles Puigdemont have dedicated it to Pedro Sánchez for the hiatus he has taken to reflect on whether it is worth continuing as president in the face of the attacks his family has received. The most curious thing is that you don’t have to go very far in time to find situations in which the conservative politician and the pro-independence politician could have received the same statement from third parties. Neither one nor the other was too original, since the one who first came out with the wedge is the far-right Rocío Monasterio.

The expression is not very fortunate: it sounds sexist, cynical, merciless. Crying is an intimate, noble and healthy feeling. Who said it’s a merit to contain emotions? It is possible that he was an emotional illiterate or someone with traumatic stress. Certainly, the phrase “coming to tears” does not mean that we should not cry when faced with an event that affects us, but what it recommends is that no one sees it. Like it’s a humiliating thing.

Politics is becoming something so highly toxic that it seems inconvenient to show feelings, when politics is the art of persuasion and not only mobilizes reason, but also emotions. What is happening is that insensitivity and hypocrisy, falsity and arrogance are being normalized in Spain. And the unhealthy use of the courts to harm people is rude, scandalous and criminal. That a character as murky as Miguel Bernad, responsible for this oxymoron that is Manos Limpias, tries to smear the President of the Government with three digital press clippings full of errors (as the subject who presented them in court has acknowledged) is serious , that a judge admits it against the Prosecutor’s Office is a shame, and that the right wing of this country highlights it, a scoundrel. What really makes us cry is where they are taking our democracy, and she cannot be asked to come in tears.
