A woman was killed in a fire that broke out in a West Seattle home early Wednesday morning.
Firefighters were called to the home in the 9800 block of 44th Ave. SW just after 4:30 a.m. to find the home fully engulfed in flames.

A man who lived in the home told KOMO News he and his roommate were working outside in a shed while their two mothers slept upstairs. One of the men’s mother then came out of the home screaming that it was on fire.

The other woman, who was 51 and disabled, was still trapped in an upstairs bathroom, the resident said.

The two men grabbed fire extinguishers and ran back inside the home, trying to knock the flames down, but they were too intense, the resident said. He said he even doused himself with water and made another attempt to go back in, but couldn’t make it. Arriving fire crews were also turned back by the flames.

“My mother’s still in there, and I’m frustrated as hell and I don’t know where I’m at,” the resident told KOMO News.

It wasn’t until just before 7 a.m. that firefighters could confirm that the man’s mother didn’t survive.
The other three residents suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene, according to Alice Kim with Seattle Fire.

There is now word yet what started the fire.
