After twenty days and several search devices, the Civil Guard has found the body of the young man Ivo Petrov (15 years old) who disappeared last Epiphany night while sailing in a canoe with two other boys, who survived, in the Mar Menor. (Murcia).
As confirmed by the armed institute to the Efe agency, the body was submerged at a depth of about five meters and at a distance of between 1,000 and 1,500 meters from the port of Los Alcázares, the point where the canoe in which they were traveling capsized, apparently stolen.
Thus ending days of fruitless searches, organized by land, sea and air, and of several doubts that had arisen in recent days, raised by the family of Petrov, a Bulgarian national.
In a press conference, the minor’s lawyer assured that the family believed that something had happened that night that was not an accident. “It seems that something else may have happened,” said lawyer Sergio Marco, who acts as spokesperson.
Marco assured that the investigators had found messages in which “it seems clear” that the initiative to go out was not from the missing minor, who “didn’t even feel like meeting the other two companions.”
“The clothes he was wearing are also not very consistent with an interest in going away for a long time and even less in taking a boat,” according to the lawyer, who maintains that other conversations that the minor may have had with other people “are along those lines.”
Furthermore, the lawyer recalled that the other two rescued people had “contradictory statements about who had the initiative to stay that night.”
These young people, who were taken to the port and taken by ambulance to the hospital, said that they had gone sailing with a Bulgarian minor and that he did not know how to swim, something his mother confirmed at a press conference.
However, according to the versions offered to the Civil Guard and the Local Police, to which El Español has had access, they include several changes in the statements of the young people, such as the information on the object where they were traveling, whether on a paddle surf board. or in a canoe.
Once the body of the minor was found, the Civil Guard now focuses its investigation on clarifying the reasons why Petrov went to the port of Los Alcázares that night and decided to embark on a canoe, being a person who was “panic” of water.
