Three members of the same family along with two other crew members died this Sunday in a plane crash in Virginia, United States, when they were attempting an emergency landing near the Ingalls Field airport.
Alfredo José Díez Seoane, 39 years old and resident of Betanzos (A Coruña), perished in the accident; his wife, Kseniia Shanina, and his son, Nicolás, who is three years old and resides in Miami (USA). As reported by La Voz de Galicia, Díez’s family confirmed that he was traveling on a private jet owned by him and his airline Atlantis Aviation. His two pilots also died in the accident.
For now, the US Air Force has opened an investigation to clarify the causes of the plane crash. In this sense, the Bath County Airport Authority has assured through the local press that the event occurred around 3:00 p.m. this Sunday. At the press conference they explained that “there was an emergency on board” and this caused the jet to try to land at the airport, but ended up crashing into a wooded area near the Ingalls Field airfield.
According to the Galician portal, Alfredo’s family plans to travel to the United States this Monday to identify the bodies and try to process their repatriation.
For his part. The mayor of Betanzos, María Barral, has shown her condolences to her countrymen and she says she is “dismayed” by this event, as she has expressed on Twitter.
