The Urban Guard of Barcelona puts into operation its Beach Unit, whose objective is to prevent and act on all those phenomena that occur on the city’s beaches. One of the star measures for this summer are the basic wardrobe ‘kits’ that the agents will provide to the victims of theft or robbery. In these kits there will be a t-shirt, flip-flops, pants and a public transport ticket.

This basic kit will be granted in the event that a person’s belongings are stolen and they have no way to return home. These kits will be delivered at the Barceloneta beach module and at the Bogatell beach module.

It is not the only measure established to combat robberies on the city’s beaches. The Beach Unit has already begun to intensify surveillance on the coast with almost 100 troops, 11 commanders and 80 agents, who are the ones that make up this group and which will be operational until the end of September.

During the past summer this unit made 272 arrests and 435 complaints, most of them for theft and misappropriation. In 2022, says the Urban Police, a hundred basic ‘kits’ were distributed to people who had suffered robberies. In 2019, before the pandemic, there were 200 ‘kits’ that were delivered to those affected.
