The firefighters of the Madrid City Council have evacuated a residential building in Lavapiés on Monday as there is a “serious risk” structural for having “burst” a pillar on the ground floor of the building.

According to sources from Madrid Emergencies, it is the building located at number 29 Ave María street, and houses a total of 20 homes.

Among the affected residents, Samur Social is going to rehouse a family of three who have requested it.

The firefighters have accompanied some neighbors to collect medicines or pets, since, for the moment, they cannot return to their homes for security reasons.

They have also been working together with technicians from the municipal Urban Development area, who have taken over the work to secure the building.

For its part, the Municipal Police has removed several vehicles parked on Esperanza street to prevent them from suffering damage, has blocked the street and has redirected traffic in the area.
