Fernanda and Vicente’s dream of traveling the world by motorcycle has turned into a nightmare in recent days. The experienced traveler was the victim of multiple sexual assault in India last Friday; specifically in Kunji, a remote village located in the northeast of the country.
In total, there were seven men who raped her and they did so several times while they held their partner, threatened with a knife. “The seven of them have all raped me, several times. While two or three watched him (his partner), two or three came and took turns,” he told EFE hours after the horrific event.
So far, only the arrest of three of the seven attackers has been confirmed. There are still some unidentified ones roaming freely. Through the @vueltaalmundoenmoto Instagram account, where the Valencian man and the Spanish-nationalized Brazilian woman tell their adventures and experiences in some countries in Africa and Asia, they have shared the image of one of the rapists that circulates on the television channels of the country, since the case has become very mediatic as it involves two foreign tourists. “This was one of the most aggressive and they still haven’t found it,” they denounced in a story.
The couple will stop their trip in the next few hours after traveling 170,000 kilometers in 66 countries in Africa and Asia, some dangerous such as Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq. On Tuesday they will travel by motorcycle to Nepal, from where they will fly to Spain.
In the last few hours, the Spanish couple has received a check worth one million rupees (about 11,100 euros) as compensation after the group rape of the woman while her husband was severely beaten. “We are conducting a thorough investigation and will try to ensure a speedy trial and conviction,” Anjaneyulu Dodde, deputy commissioner of Dumka district in the northern state of Jharkhand, told media.
