Agents belonging to the La Rioja Police Headquarters warn of the new scam called the ‘good employee’ or ‘the boss’s call’. In the Autonomous Community of La Rioja, several cases have already been reported. The scam takes place through a phone call in which the scammers will pretend to be the victim’s boss, or someone very close to them.
In this case, it is reported that the person in charge of the company in which one is working is requesting that a financial deposit be made to a specific account number. All this under the pretext that “without this payment very important damage will be generated for the company.” So those people in good faith will believe that the boss is in trouble and that they need to make this deposit as soon as possible.
This scam is called the “good employee” scam, since the victim, acting in good faith, agrees to pay the criminals a large sum of money, believing that they are doing something related to the company, when in reality this is not the case.
Although this is not a WhatsApp scam, criminals could also use calls from the instant messaging application to carry out the scam, so you should be careful.
In these cases, it is always recommended to distrust any call you receive, be it a phone call or a voice call in any instant messaging application, and never make any payment without first really confirming that it is not a trap, making the appropriate checks with those responsible – owners of the business.
