Judge Manuel García Castellón insists that Puigdemont and Rovira are suspected of terrorism for having led Democratic Tsunami, a popular movement that occupied several Catalan infrastructures, including the El Prat airport, during the process. The prosecution interprets these actions, in which there were no deaths or serious injuries, as public disorder. The case, dormant until 2019, is a serious threat to the political will of the parliamentary majority to amnesty the Catalan independence leaders.

Spain. The judge of the National Court Manuel García Castellón considers that the actions of Democratic Tsunami during the process could have been catastrophic and, consequently, believes that its leaders should be accused of terrorism. The police reports in his possession ensure that Puigdemont and Rovira led this popular movement.

Catalonia. The president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, will repeat as an ERC candidate when elections are called, surely in February 2025. It is not clear that the political future of Junqueras, Puigdemont and the rest of the independence leaders will be resolved by then.

Barcelona. The Government and the Generalitat are committed to solving the management of the El Prat airport this year. The Generalitat wants more control of the infrastructure and more intercontinental flights.

Middle East. The shock wave of the war in Gaza reaches Pakistan, which yesterday attacked Iran, in response to a previous Iranian bombing. Tension soars between both countries, but China, supporter of Pakistan, calls for calm. Still, the risk of regional conflict is higher today than ever.

Israel. Israeli Prime Minister Beniamin Netanyahu admits that the war in Gaza can easily extend until 2025. What’s more, he publicly opposes a diplomatic solution that involves the creation of a Palestinian state, as requested by the United States.

Health. The flu does not let up and continues at maximum levels in much of Spain. Communities react differently and, as always, clash over whether or not to wear a mask in hospitals.
