After seven slides in a little over two weeks, the Oregon Department of Transportation closed Oregon 224 at Tong Road near Carver last Thursday afternoon for the safety of the traveling public.

A contractor will get started on emergency repairs to the 70-foot hillside as soon as possible. ODOT hydrologists and engineers are working on the emergency plan. The long-term closure is at Tong Road. Local residents will continue to have access to their homes.

Detours include westbound traffic directed onto Southeast 232nd Drive. Eastbound traffic will be funneled onto Southeast Tong Road. Truck traffic is instructed to use OR 212.
