A Nazareth man is accused of stealing nearly $10,000 from his mother by swiping her debit card while she slept.
Charged is Robert A. Koons, no age provided, of the first block of Sycamore Street.
Upper Nazareth police July 26 were notified by Koons’ mother of a theft from her PNC bank account. Police obtained bank records of the victim’s account, spanning April 2015 to July 8, 2016.
Police interviewed Koons on Oct. 26 and he allegedly admitted to stealing $9,285 from his mother’s bank account without permission. Koons told investigators he stole his mother’s debit card from her purse while she slept and that she had the pin number written on a note stuck to the back of the card, according to police.
He then removed cash during multiple transactions throughout the past two years from ATM machines at two different convenience stores, police said.
Koons is charged with theft, receiving stolen property, access device fraud and possessing a device known to be counterfeit. He was arraigned Saturday before District Judge James Narlesky, who set bail at $10,000 unsecured.
