José Antonio Casanueva, grandfather of Marta del Castillo, the young woman murdered in 2009 by Miguel Carcaño and whose body was never found, will travel some stages of the Camino de Santiago to demand “the search for the remains” and “ask for justice” in the case of his granddaughter, as the family spokesperson, Jose Luis Reina, explained to EFE.
Next Wednesday, April 3, he will attend the pilgrim mass at the Puerta de San Miguel of the Seville Cathedral, from where he will travel accompanied by between four and six people by car to Sarria (Lugo), one of the most popular among pilgrims to connect with the Camino de Santiago and from where they will begin their journey on foot, according to the spokesperson.
With this feat, José Antonio Casanueva seeks to convey to the pilgrims and the city of Santiago de Compostela the demands that the victim’s relatives have been demanding for years, thus fulfilling the statement he made last January at a press conference in Seville, coinciding with the fifteenth anniversary of the death of the young woman from Seville: “I will die looking for my granddaughter.”
The young woman from Seville was murdered when she was 17 years old, a crime for which Miguel Carcaño, who had been her boyfriend, is serving a 21-year prison sentence and the family continues to demand that the investigation to find her remains not cease.
