BERLIN — Police said they expect to file charges against a man who may have been on drugs when he barricaded himself and a child in a Glacier Drive home Saturday.

The standoff lasted nearly three hours until the man and the child walked out of the home without incident around 1 p.m., Berlin police said in a press release.

They did not name the man, who was transported to a local crisis center for evaluation. An officer at the department Sunday said no new information was being released on the incident.

Police were first called to the scene for a domestic dispute at 10:06 a.m. They were told that the man inside was believed to be on drugs and had made threats to harm himself. He refused to come out of the locked house or to let a child leave, police said.

The Lower Camden County Regional-Special Response Team and police negotiators were called to the scene to attempt to talk the man out of the home. Residents in the adjoining homes were evacuated and others within the housing development were told to shelter in place while negotiations were ongoing.

Police did not say what charges they planned to file, or whether the man had been released from the crisis center.
