Two blue sharks have appeared this Sunday at noon on the beach of Portbou (Alt Empordà). The bathers have detected them around one in the afternoon and have immediately piled up on the floating platform or have fled by swimming towards the beach.
Several people who were kayaking have helped the people who had stayed on the platform to return to the sand, to avoid swimming in the presence of the two sharks.
Despite the fear of those present, there has been no incident with sharks. The mayor of the town, Gael Rodrigues, wanted to emphasize that “Portbou beach is completely safe” and explained that “it is normal because the Mediterranean blue shark is an autochthonous fauna”. The blue sharks have already left the area.
