E-ZPass will be coming to five bridges that connect Jersey Shore towns.
The Press of Atlantic City reported that the Cape May County Bridge Commission is $13.5 million in debt and will use the electronic toll system to help save money and boost revenue.
The report said the Board of Freeholders approved a $500,000 expense and servicing budget for E-ZPass equipment.
Executive Sirector Karen Coughlin said the bridge commission had been looking into this for the past decade, and partnered with the South Jersey Transportation Authority for the change.
She said she expects the new electronic system to be up and running by the beginning of summer.
“When people come to the shore, they expect E-ZPass to be there,” Coughlin said. “It will definitely make things easier.”
The commission is responsible for five bridges on Ocean Drive from Cape May to Ocean City within the county.
