An off-duty civil guard in training has arrested a man in the Madrid district of Villaverde who was trying to kill his partner with a drill that he embedded in his head. The events occurred in the early hours of Sunday to Monday when the civil guard was on public roads.
The agent, who was in a cafeteria with his family, heard cries for help and saw through a window a bloodied woman with a drill in her head along with her youngest son. At that moment, he explained, a man of about 30 or 35 years came out of the apartment “thumping the door yelling that he did not want to know anything about that person.” Once outside, he held him back despite the fact that the assailant resisted.
The retention took place until the agents of the National Police arrived, who proceeded to arrest him. The assault was committed by using a drill bit on the victim’s head. The man was arrested on the road for attempted murder.
This event adds to a black month of July due to cases of sexist violence in our country. According to data from the Ministry of Equality, the number of women killed by gender violence in Spain amounts to 28 in 2023 and 1,212 since 2003, while the number of minors orphaned by gender violence amounts to 33 in 2023 and 410 since 2013.
