After winning 49% on Tuesday, he was forced to enter a primary runoff election. He did not have the required 50% to avoid the runoff.

Taylor released a statement saying that Taylor made a terrible mistake about a year ago that caused pain and deep hurt among the people he loves most. Taylor said, “I had an affair. It was wrong. It was the biggest failure of my entire life.”

Taylor apologized to his wife, his three daughters and said that he and his wife had been working for months to heal the “scars” left by his actions.

Taylor was elected to Texas’ 3rd Congressional District in 2018. He is a former Marine combat veteran and Marine. According to CBS Dallas Fort Worth he was considered one the most conservative members of Texas’ delegation.

Taylor was confronted with a primary challenge from the right after he voted for 2020 election results to be certified. He supported a congressional commission that would investigate the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Taylor was able to win 49% of Tuesday’s vote against Keith Self (ex-Collin County Judge), who received 27%. Suzanne Harp came in third, with 21%.

Taylor was heavily criticised by Self for his vote to certify 2020’s presidential election and to create a commission to investigate January 6 attacks. He also voted to remove Confederate statues at the Capitol.

His campaign announced Wednesday that Taylor would complete his term.
