A 60-year-old worker died last Monday while cleaning the Andrés Segovia school alone in the town of Móstoles, in the middle of a heat wave, according to Más Madrid.

“Yesterday a resident of Móstoles who worked cleaning schools died. We are waiting for the circumstances in which it happened to be clarified. My deepest condolences to her family and friends,” the Más Madrid deputy wrote on his Twitter account in the Emilio Delgado Assembly.

Delgado explained that the union delegates had asked the company in two previous meetings that no worker be left alone in the school in the afternoons, for occupational risk prevention, since, on the days that go from when the students take the vacations until the school closes permanently, in the morning there are teachers, but in the afternoon there is only one worker cleaning the school, reports Efe.

The union delegates had asked the contract -Limpiezas Camacho- not to do so, but apparently as a result of this event they will be listened to, according to the Más Madrid parliamentarian.

“The Móstoles City Council also has a responsibility in the services it outsources and can pressure the contractor to improve the conditions of the workers,” Delgado stressed.

As the CCOO secretary, Teresa González, has transferred, the causes of death are still unknown and she has reiterated the need for workers not to carry out their work alone.

González has asserted that, according to the data collected, there may be evidence that the woman suffered an accident at work and, from the CCOO, they will work to find out the causes.

Likewise, it has proposed that action and care protocols be created for workers who carry out their work alone to avoid this type of incident.
