The local police of Sant Pol de Mar (Maresme), in collaboration with that of Canet de Mar and the Mossos d’Esquadra, arrested this Wednesday a man who broke into a train on the R1 Renfe line while drunk and with a axe, according to ‘El Caso’ and police sources confirmed to ACN.
The 34-year-old detainee boarded the train in Mataró in the Calella direction, walking through the wagons and hitting the train furniture with the axe. The Mossos operational room alerted the local police of the towns at 2:50 p.m., who assigned several troops to the Sant Pol de Mar stop to intercept the convoy.
There, a sergeant from Canet and several agents from Sant Pol asked the driver to block the doors of the train to prevent the man from fleeing. Upon locating him, they confirmed that he was under the influence of alcohol but that he was not carrying the ax, since he had thrown it in a bin in the same wagon.
The police easily subdued the man, who did not resist, and handcuffed him to search him and check that he did not have another weapon on him. Immediately afterwards, the Mossos, who also appeared at the station, took the detainee to the police station.
Police sources detailed to ACN that three witnesses reported that the man was brandishing the ax while he was walking around the train with an intimidating attitude. This generated, they explain, “panic” among the travelers, who alerted the police.
It is expected that the detainee will go to court between this Thursday and Friday.
