A Cleveland (United States) woman is accused of the death of her 16-month-old daughter for allegedly abandoning her for eight days while she went on vacation. According to local media reports, her 31-year-old mother went on vacation to Puerto Rico -where she was from- and then visited the city of Detroit.

The girl was left alone during those days, from June 8 to 16. The woman alerted authorities when she returned to her home and found her unconscious. She will be tried by the Cleveland Municipal Court, charged with murder.

Police said the girl was found between dirty blankets and a diaper saturated with urine and droppings. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office did not determine the girl’s official cause of death, but court records indicate she was “extremely dehydrated.”

The mother is currently being held in the Cuyahoga County Jail awaiting trial until a preliminary hearing is held by the Cleveland court.
