At least 15 people have been electrocuted this Wednesday in India after a transformer exploded and electrified the bridge they were crossing at that time. The crash site is located on the banks of the Alaknanda River in northern India.

According to the Chimoli district police, the rescue operation is already underway and the injured have been taken to hospital. Among the deceased are a police sub-inspector and five national guardsmen, as explained by the Director General of the Uttarakhand Police.

The police chief, V Murugesan, in reference to the possible causes of the accident, explained that “at first sight there was current on the railing”, although he assures that the investigation will reveal more details.
