La Veronal has done it again. If the Sonoma show was chosen to be performed at the Papal Palace in Avignon, last night the company directed by Marcos Morau outdid itself. The event was in the main square, on the first day of this edition of FiraTàrrega. Outdoors, the empowerment of women presented in this luminous piece shone brighter than ever, in a space packed with people.

With a show steeped in religious tradition and folklore, the beatitudes and commandments take on new meanings. Morau declared to La Vanguardia that he had made some minimal adaptations for the occasion. But, knowing the character, it couldn’t be true.

In fact, the small surprises were both for those who already knew the work and even for the organizers, who were aware of some adjustments, but not all.

On this occasion, the church became another character, with which Sonoma played at will, now with the portico, now with the rose window, now with the central aisle, now with the image of the Virgin presiding over the altar. It is also true that only the spectators who accessed the central space of the square were able to see this game in its entirety, in a crowded square, where there was no room for a pin. Tonight there will be another opportunity to see and enjoy this unparalleled spectacle.

As icing on the cake, La Veronal invited forty women of all ages to join in with a timpani, which is also a tribute to Luis Buñuel, the filmmaker from Calanda who always returned home for Easter with his drum. .

Until Sunday, the capital of Urgell will host 46 shows from 45 companies. And it couldn’t start better, because yesterday’s Sonoma will go down in the annals of the history of FiraTàrrega and outdoor shows.
