In addition to the classic egg flan, supermarket refrigerators are full of other versions of this popular dessert: cheese, vanilla, coffee… But beyond the taste, there are other aspects that must be considered when choosing. The Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) has prepared a ranking with the best flans in the supermarket to make it much easier for consumers.
The traditional ingredients of a flan are milk, egg and sugar, but according to this organization, some brands use too many additives. “There are few who follow the classic recipe, despite what they presume on the label, and they resort to aromas, syrups, additives or ingredients that are not very “homemade”, they warn.
To find out if the nutritional composition of a flan is good, the OCU recommends looking at the Nutriscore label (if it has one). Likewise, consulting the score that the OCU has given to each flan, from 1 to 100, can also be useful. The note takes into account the Nutriscore label, but also the ingredients of the flan (assessing the type of additives used) and the nutritional implications of the products.
