Garlic is one of the most versatile ingredients in our kitchen that we can use to make a multitude of sauces, stir-fry or even as a garnish for any meat or fish recipe. However, whether due to lack of time to peel and prepare them, because we have spent too much shopping at the supermarket or because we have had an excess of production in our organic garden, garlic can lose its freshness and even come out. Luckily, social networks have discovered a very simple and cheap trick that will help you preserve the heads of garlic for longer.

The popular content creator Lilibeth Ramírez (@recetaslily) has shared a video that discovers the element with which you can wrap those garlic that are hanging around your refrigerator and with which you don’t know what to do. In this publication, which has already accumulated more than 28,000 likes, this influencer with 1.5 million followers explains that the best way to preserve garlic is with the help of something that we all have at home: a bag or piece of paper.

When you think a head of garlic is in danger of falling out, put it in a paper bag and store it in the pantry. You should avoid keeping them in the refrigerator, as excess moisture could further damage the garlic and the paper itself. However, if you notice that the garlic is in an advanced state of deterioration, don’t wait any longer: chop it and mix it with salt and olive oil, store the mixture in a plastic container and put it in the freezer or refrigerator, if you go. to consume it soon.

When the heads of garlic grow green stalks, that means they are ripe, but not that you should throw them away. These stems come from the center of garlic cloves and, despite their unpleasant appearance, can still add the flavor you need to your recipes. Simply cut them before cooking, as this germ gives the garlic a stronger smell and a more bitter taste that makes it more difficult to digest.

Additionally, you can use a head of garlic that has grown out as a seed for a new planting. To do this, put it in a glass with enough water to cover the roots. You will have to replace this water whenever it becomes cloudy and place the glass in a sunny location so that the roots and stems can flourish. When the stems are 8 centimeters or more, they are suitable for planting.
