The working conditions of hospitality workers have always generated some debate, especially due to the precariousness of some job offers. The debate has reached social networks with accounts dedicated to denouncing unworthy situations within the sector. An example, the user Soy Camarero.
The latest case that Jesus Soriano has echoed is a conversation between a businessman and someone interested in his company’s job offer. The proposal drew attention due to the length of the day and the low salary.
Negotiations between the two are starting well. “Great, it’s not too far away, it’s half an hour away. I don’t have experience as a waiter, but I do have experience serving customers in a home delivery restaurant and I adapt quickly to any job,” explains one of the applicants for the position.
And here comes the employer, who details that the work is from Tuesday to Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. “I pay 700 as a waiter. If you don’t have much experience I don’t care at least if you want to work,” he continues.
Surprised by the conditions of the job offer, the person asks him, to see if he understood it correctly: “I’m sorry, maybe I misunderstood. Would it be 9 hours a day, from Tuesday to Sunday (only one day of rest) and 700 euros per month?”
“At most 1000 euros, 250 for the whole week,” the businessman clarifies. By confirming the poor conditions, he ends up rejecting the position. “I’m sorry but working 14 hours a week, more than what is allowed, and not even reaching the minimum wage does not convince me.”
Users of X (formerly Twitter) have also criticized this job offer. “Then some say they can’t find waiters,” says one. “‘Young people don’t want to work’. Not handsome, what happens is that they already have an education and values ??that do not swallow slavery,” adds another.
