The Bola de Drac monkey once again leads the orders of many Catalan pastry shops, which are finalizing their creations for next Easter Monday. A theme that is having a “very good circulation” after the recent death of its creator, the Japanese Akira Toriyama.
The vice president of the Barcelona Pastry Guild, Miquel Zaguirre, assures that, after years missing, Goku returns due to the nostalgia of many of the godfathers, who grew up watching the manga series, popular since the 1980s.
Precisely, that has been the most repeated question in recent weeks. According to Zaguirre, when taking orders, customers asked: “Will you make Bola de Drac cute?”
The person in charge assures that this year female characters such as Mia also stand out, an initiative of the union and the University of Barcelona (UB) to promote science. This year it is a chocolate figure that each year represents a different profession within the scientific field and this year she is a biologist and is accompanied by elements such as a butterfly and the double helix of DNA.”
The Barcelona player and current 2023 Ballon d’Or winner, Aitana Bonmatí, and the iconic Barbie will also crown many cute ones.
The Pastry Guild places emphasis on “original and unique creations”, beyond “the most media characters.” In this sense, one of those who is put to the test for Easter is the one who in October 2022 was chosen as the best chocolatier in the world, Lluc Crusellas.
The windows of the pastry shops have been displaying monkeys for days, because their sales “in recent years have been very distributed,” explains Zaguirre. However, he points out that “the strong days” will be concentrated between Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday, “but especially Easter Monday.”
Zaguirre estimates that about 800,000 monkeys will be sold with prices similar to those of 2023. The person in charge assures that the increase in the price of products such as cocoa “does not affect the figure of chocolate or cake”, although he does not rule out that it will do so for the next anus. For this reason, he considers that prices are similar to those of 2023.
For this Easter, Lluc Crusellas, voted best chocolatier in the world, has created a “very fresh” collection of seven farm and forest animals. The duck is surely the “most characteristic”, because on an aesthetic and visual level it conveys everything that the Eukarya brand – its chocolate brand – represents, with geometric and polygonal shapes, explains Crusellas.
Crusellas won the title, in part, thanks to an oversized figure of a chocolate elephant. “Whether I like it or not, it has become my pet for life,” says the master chocolatier.
The elephant as a monkey was already sold in 2023, but it has always been available, and this year too. The young chocolatier believes that it is a symbol “that will remain forever for everything it means to the entire team.”
