Traditional Dragon Boat Festival Celebrations in Sanlin Town

Sanlin Town in Pudong recently marked the Dragon Boat Festival in a grand and traditional manner. The festivities included a dragon lion dance on the historic Wutong stone bridge at Sanlintang Old Street. Rowers, dressed in traditional Chinese attire, paddled a dragon boat along the Sanlintang River to kick off the celebrations.

The event featured various cultural and folk activities, such as storytelling in the local Pudong dialect and the making of zongzi (sticky rice dumplings). The internationally acclaimed Sanlin Dragon and Lion Dance Troupe put on a special show that captivated the audience.

In addition to the performances, a fair at Crystal Plaza in Qiantan showcased heritage-listed handicraft skills like wickerwork, lacquer fan painting, and flip paper flowers. Children enjoyed displays of piyingxi (Chinese shadow puppetry) and xiyangjing (Chinese thaumatrope), an early form of animation.

The festival brought together the community to celebrate traditions and cultural heritage in a festive and colorful way, highlighting the rich history of Sanlin Town.
