Bread, tomato and oil. It is all you need to enjoy one of the most typical preparations in Catalonia, which will accompany our sausages, cheeses or potato omelettes, among many other snacks. No matter what time of day it is, it tastes good at breakfast, lunch or dinner.
It seems like a simple preparation. We just have to toast the bread, rub a sufficiently ripe tomato, add a splash of olive oil and a pinch of salt.
However, these simple steps are not always respected. On the contrary, they are perverted in such a way that the result is far from a bread with tomato.
That is the complaint of X (formerly Twitter) user Joan Mangues, who couldn’t believe what they had given her when she asked for it at a bar in Barcelona.
In his publication, he attaches a photograph in which you can see a piece of potato omelette and a couple of slices of bread, but the tomato is not scrubbed, but rather cut into pieces. “I just got served that ‘bread with tomato’ in Barcelona. What should I do now?” she writes.
The rest of the users of this social network also show their indignation. “Tell them that they haven’t served you what you ordered, that this is bread and tomato, not with tomato,” one responds. “I suggest a demonstration in defense of bread with tomato,” adds another.
